Adopting
Olivia was definitely the best thing we ever did . . . hands down the best decision ever made. Funny, how it took such a long
time and struggle to get to the point to decide to adopt. If I would have know how much joy and love this perfect child
of ours was to bring us I would not have hesitated so long as I did to go down the road of adoption.
Now that
we have been back home a while and things have settled down (as much as they can with a 2 year-old running around), I
find myself often sharing our story. When Commonwealth first asked me if I was interested in becoming a Family
Mentor, I was not sure what that even was. What I did know is that we had a wonderful experience with Commonwealth;
from beginning to end we felt supported and guided every step of the way, and the friendships we made in Bogota with other
adoptive couples made all the difference. I see how important it is to be in touch with other adoptive families before,
during and after the process.
I am glad and proud to have become a Family Mentor for Commonwealth and share our
experience with others. I remember being at the beginning of the adoption journey with many more questions than answers and
wondering whom to ask. . . so, go ahead write to me if you have questions. I’ll be happy to tell you about what
we went through. If I can help just one couple decide to become a family through adoption, I will be thrilled.
I believe it is a powerful opportunity I have been given and will do whatever I can to let others know that adopting
is just one more way to become a family.
All my best,
Zita
